Lowly scribes, holy words

From the August 1997 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Our thoughts of the Bible utter our lives.Mary Baker Eddy, Message to The Mother Church for 1902, p. 4.

O Holy Bible scribes, when we
are tempted by apostasy
your copied page persuades—God is.

Submissive to His authorship,
you pen dominion over sin
and guide us to discipleship.

Through your venues and avenues
we reach Christ's own authority
to heal the sick, to preach, to teach.

Cyberspace Scripture purveyors,
with World Wide Web and Internet,
still borrow from your ancient texts.

O worthy scribes in every age,
you may not vie with prophet, sage,
but through your work their words survive
and give glorious utterance to our lives.
