Testimonies of Healing

About four years ago a relative...

From the August 1998 issue of The Christian Science Journal

About four years ago a relative and her husband came to visit us. When they arrived, our relative, who is not a Christian Scientist, said to me, "I thought we would be bringing you the flu germ, but I see you have it already." I was perfectly well and told her so. During their visit, I held daily to this thought from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy: "When the illusion of sickness or sin tempts you, cling steadfastly to God and His idea. Allow nothing but His likeness to abide in your thought. Let neither fear nor doubt overshadow your clear sense and calm trust, that the recognition of life harmonious—as Life eternally is— can destroy any painful sense of, or belief in, that which Life is not" (p. 495). After a wonderful visit our guests left for home.

In a few days I experienced a loss of my voice, and while driving, I lost all sense of perspective about my car's closeness to other cars. I arrived at my destination safe and sound, but as a precaution I asked one of my dear friends to follow me home. She did so lovingly. As soon as I arrived home, I telephoned a Christian Science practitioner for treatment through prayer. I was immediately healed of fear of the flu, loss of my voice, and fear of driving.

During this experience the words shepherd and sheep, along with the twenty-third Psalm, Mrs. Eddy's poem "'Feed My Sheep'" (Poems, p. 14), and the thought of Christ Jesus holding a lamb in his arms filled my waking hours. I felt I was being held in the arms of the Shepherd, God.
