Poems

Holiness

From the August 1998 issue of The Christian Science Journal

No rarefied philosophy
fished from the human theory pool
of guesswork and conjectural
belief.

No stunning set of stock replies
or sharp quotations memorized
to fill my eager listeners
with awe.

No flashy mental bag of tricks
to coax and wield with mastery
upon the floodlit theater stage
of dreams.

No.
Holiness is none of this.

It's more a sense of timeless peace,
of thought transcending turbulence,
at one with the serenity
of Soul.

It speaks a deep imperative:
the covenant of blessedness,
that spurns the destitute applause
of men

and turns forever from ego-sense to Love
where Life's irradiant day unfolds
in Mind—one seamless consciousness
of heaven.See Science and Health 242:25
