Yes. It is! I call it "Church on Wheels." Many Christian Scientists in various communities conduct church services at prisons, hospitals, and correctional and rehabilitation camps, sharing the message of the Christ, Truth, with inmates, patients, and residents. These workers serve as chaplains, readers, ushers, or musicians.
There have been instances of healing in which men and women have been freed from addictions and the desire to do wrong. One such instance occurred when my husband and I provided services in a women's prison. A woman had been jailed for prostitution and drugs, and her three children had been taken from her. She was grief-stricken. My husband and I shared healing ideas with her. Referring her to the first chapter of Genesis, we explained that in reality she was created by God and consequently could not be a "sinner." As she grasped that idea, her attitude changed. Now she could understand that the crimes she had committed were not the real "her." She saw that as God's perfect child she could not think or act badly, because God made only good. Working to see herself from the standpoint of perfection, she no longer thought of herself as a sinner. I saw her resurrection of thought over a few months' period. Her attitude had changed and she was a new person. She was told by the court that because her attitude had changed for the better, the court was considering the possibility that she might have the privilege of visiting her children or even of regaining custody of them. She was at peace.
It was a joy to serve at that facility. My husband and I gave copies of Science and Health to some of the women there. They would walk around the prison yard with Science and Health, and Bibles, too, sticking out of their back pockets. And they would stand around discussing the healing truth with each other. Peace and joy were evident.
