A Few Hours after dinner I noticed my daughter had been very quiet upstairs. I went to say hello and see what she was up to. I found her in the bathtub, in obvious discomfort and frightened. She was covered with a rash from head to toe. My immediate reaction was great love for my daughter and a refusal to accept that she could be in any danger. My love for her wanted to see her free from whatever this condition was as quickly as possible. Our family has seen in so many ways that the power of God is the most effective cure for all kinds of illness and problems.
I moved my daughter into a more comfortable situation, helping her get dried off and into bed. She and I talked about how God is really the only power. We reasoned that a perfect God, Mind, could only be knowing His own thoughts, and that perfect Mind produces perfect thoughts. If Mind is doing the knowing and creating, and Mind is good, then only good comes from God. Only that which is cause produces effect. God is the only cause, and man is His effect. Perfect God creates perfect man. Then, sickness couldn't be what God knows and isn't what man experiences.
The Bible records God as saying, "I am the Lord, and there is none else, there is no God beside me" (Isa. 45:5). Our course of mental action seemed clear to me. We needed to stick to God and to what He knows to be true. Science and Health urges: "Keep distinctly in thought that man is the offspring of God, not of man; that man is spiritual, not material; that Soul is Spirit, outside of matter, never in it never giving the body life and sensation. It breaks the dream of disease to understand that sickness is formed by the human mind, not by matter nor by the divine Mind" (p. 396).
