Our preschool-aged son, Andrew, loved to be held by the hands and swung around in a circle. One day as my husband was playing with him, he felt Andrew's wrist shift. Andrew began crying. His wrist seemed to be out of place, but he held his arm close to his body and wouldn't let us touch it.
Immediately both my husband and I reached out to God in prayer. My prayers acknowledged God, good, as the only power and presence. I was tempted to blame my husband for what had happened, but I knew that would not help anyone. I stayed focused on praying instead. This happened in all of about thirty seconds.
Our son knew the Lord's Prayer, so we prayed the Lord's Prayer together out loud. This had a calming effect on our little boy and on us. We got into the car to drive home. At home, my husband went into the living room with Andrew. I went into the family room to telephone a Christian Science practitioner.
