Testimonies of Healing

Hymns bring freedom from flu

From the October 2000 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I've experienced many healings of physical, mental, and relationship problems since becoming a student of Christian Science. I'd like to share this one in the hope that it may prove helpful to others.

The hymns brought an awareness of God's omnipotence.

On being elected to the position of First Reader in our branch Church of Christ, Scientist, I felt guided, before taking my place on the platform for the first time, to memorize seven of Mary Baker Eddy's poems that have been set to music in the Christian Science Hymnal. A few years later, while flying home from a trip to Europe, I was studenly afflicted with violent symptoms of flu. Realizing that I was becoming a pest to the passengers around me, I withdrew to a restroom and began to pray. I had had many healings as a result of the understanding gained from the message of these poems, but I did not have a hymnal with me. After a while I came out, resumed my seat, and took out some notebook paper and a pen. I then proceeded to write out all the words of the seven poems I had memorized. I also hummed some of the tunes as I wrote.
