Mary Baker Eddy devoted more than four decades to communicating the divine laws of Life, Truth and Love to the world. She healed, taught, preached, lectured, mentored, and published. It is significant that for thirty-eight years, many of her greatest efforts went into writing Science and Health and making it available to everyone.
Mary Baker Eddy is born in the early nineteenth century—a time when women face obstacles to pursuing any endeavor except housekeeping and child-rearing. However, when asked what she will do when she grows up, the young Mary Baker boldly asserts, "I will write a book."
From childhood Mary Baker Eddy suffers from chronic illness. In her early twenties, she is left penniless when her husband passes away a few months before the birth of their only child. Now a single mother, she is forced to depend on the help provided by her family and friends.
