Prayer eliminates nervous condition

From the October 2001 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Following a severe motor accident, I found myself suffering from a nervous condition, although my physical injuries were minor. A doctor prescribed pills, and when I asked how long I should take them, he replied, "Probably all your life." This brought me up with a jolt. I had become interested in Christian Science, and I decided then and there to discard the pills and pray about this. Shortly afterwards the nervous condition disappeared. I continued studying Christian Science, and found it to be a great benefit in all aspects of my life, especially in business.

One healing in particular has provided me with much inspiration. Part of the skin on my left forearm became inflamed. At first I refused to be afraid and instead prayed about it. Then I asked a Christian Science practitioner to pray with me. I prayed especially about source and cause. I found this statement in Science and Health very helpful: "There is but one primal cause. Therefore there can be no effect from any other cause, andthere can be no reality in aught which does not proceed from this great and only cause" (p. 207).

I was confident that God had not caused this problem and that our prayers were effective to prove its unreality, although there was no change in my condition. Then the time came for my wife and me to go on a fortnight's holiday to the eastern Mediterranean. I had hoped to be clear of this problem by then.
