I GOT REGIS, my Great Dane, when he was a puppy, many years ago. Every year, I took him to the veterinarian to get his required shots. After a few years Regis started having symptoms of pain through his midsection. After some discussion with my husband, who is not a Christian Scientist, we took him to be looked at by the vet.
The vet asked us to leave Regis at the clinic for a few days for tests. When we went back later that week to get him, the vet asked that we sit down. He told us that Regis had cancer, and that it had spread throughout his body. The vet advised us to schedule an appointment to put him down so he would not experience a painful death.
The vet said he would be there for me if I needed his help.
