Spiritual discovery at a Christian Science Reading Room

From the May 2001 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The following experiences are a few of those shared by attendants serving in the Reading Room at San Francisco International Airport.

• Two women visited the Reading Room while waiting for their flight. One of them told the attendant that her boyfriend had an incurable disease, and she asked if Christian Science could help him. The attendant told her that it certainly could. She pointed out the spiritual account of creation as "very good," in the Bible's first chapter. She went on to speak of how Jesus healed through seeing others as God sees them. The woman began to understand that what was being said wasn't true just for Jesus' time but for here and now. Each visitor purchased a copy of Science and Health and other books and pamphlets, expressing deep gratitude that God had brought them there.

• A young man visited while waiting for his flight. He read an article from the Journal and then asked, "What is Christian Science?" As the attendant explained some of the fundamentals, he seemed to grasp the explanation immediately—as if he'd always understood it. He purchased a copy of Science and Health and thanked her. The attendant understood better that day Mrs. Eddy's statement from Science and Health (p. 570), "Millions of unprejudiced minds—simple seekers for Truth, weary wanderers, athirst in the desert—are waiting and watching for rest and drink."
