"Going to the fountain" was the prize-winner at a photojournalism exhibit I once attended. Snapped at sunrise, it showed what looked like an endless line of African women carrying large jugs on their heads. Vivid and stark, the picture said it all—their thirst, their expectancy. Their early-morning mission was essential and their trek long. No fountain was visible; yet the viewer knew these women, purposeful and strong, would get there. And once each had her jug filled, she would not stray far from it the rest of the long, hot day.
The photo gave me a new perspective.
The photograph left a great impression on me, and its message turned out to be precisely what I needed in my early morning study of the Bible. Frankly, my study of the weekly Christian Science Bible Lesson had become a little stagnant—more repetitious than refreshing. Each week, the sermons in Christian Science churches include verses from both from the Old and New Testaments of the Bible and from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. The Lessons are available in citation form or Full Text form so that they can be studied and applied during the week. They can be purchased in Christian Science Reading Rooms or by subscription .
