Most of us belong to several communities—the one where we live, the place where we work, and maybe a different town where we go to church or engage in other meaningful activities. How we interact with those communities can make a big difference to them and to us.
And many people do interact, by volunteering in various capacities. According to 1998 figures, there are an estimated 115 million volunteers in Canada and the United States alone, and that number is rising. They account for nearly 21 billion hours of community service.
In this month's issue, you'll meet some of these people. They talk about the spiritual dimension in their service, and their efforts to bring joy, stability, and peace to their communities—local or global.
