My community is a priority in my life

From the June 2002 issue of The Christian Science Journal

As the Journal editorial staff discussed commitment to community, it seemed only natural to ask a cross-section of activists to convey some of the reasons their work is meaningful to them. The comments below are excerpted from ideas they discussed with Journal staff member .

My commitment to community goes beyond my church [Foursquare Gospel] and the Baptist and the Methodist churches. It becomes the Church of Foxboro, MA, if you like. We may disagree, but we focus on the things we agree on. Like families, we do things with other families. A denomination is a powerful thing. The only damaging thing is denominationalism—"My denomination is better than yours."
