Editor's note: The Mary Baker Eddy Library for the Betterment of Humanity will open its doors to the public on September 29, 2002. We asked the Library's Chief Executive Officer, Stephen I. Danzansky, for his thoughts as he and the Library staff prepare for this historic occasion. The following guest editorial is his response.

The looms of crime, hidden in the dark recesses of mortal thought, are every hour weaving webs more complicated and subtle. Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 102 .

As humanity pauses to recall and reflect on the events of September 11, 2001, we find the ensuing year has brought us to a very different place.
