A new star ON THE Boston skyline

From the September 2002 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Later this month, over ten years of work, thought, and prayer will come to fruition as The Mary Baker Eddy Library for the Betterment of Humanity opens its doors to the world community. In the last year, visitors to its web site (www.marybakereddylibrary.org) have been able to follow the Library's progress, and attendants at the 2002 Annual Meeting & Conference, held by the Church Mrs. Eddy founded, have had a preview. But now the Library will be truly available to everyone and anyone from around the world.

The main program of activities is slated for Saturday, September 28, when an open house will give all visitors free admission. The day before this main event, the media will gather for a ceremony and program that will inform them about the Library's significance and its broader relevance to needs around the globe. This is no dusty, ivory-tower library but one that is both relevant and timeless in its outlook.

Saturday's events on The Christian Science Plaza will include food, dance, and music. The Library's cultural neighbors, such as museums and educational institutions, are being invited to exhibit on the Plaza as part of the Library's participation in the local, as well as the global, community. This past summer the Library continued to build community connections through the popular Summer SOULstice programs of education and fun for neighbors of all ages-but especially children-on the Christian Science Plaza.
