'Come and see'

From the March 2003 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A friend just sent me his new address, and I'm pleased for two reasons: first, because the move represents a step of progress for him, and second, I don't want to lose touch. It made me think of the millions of similar messages that must go out every day to let friends know of a move to a new home or job. This is a very mobile society, and we have a gentle reminder of this on our kitchen table.

Jesus' call, "Lazarus, come forth," reached beyond the grave to raise a friend from death.

Twenty-five years ago, a family stayed with us for a few weeks during their move. Scores of postal address-change cards were filled out on this wooden table, and there, as a reminder of the firm hand of our friend, is their new address embossed several times into our tabletop.
