BOOK REVIEW

A Bible-based view of wealth

Is it really still practical today?

From the July 2003 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Faithful Finances 101: From the Poverty of Fear and Greed to the Riches of Spiritual Investing By Gary Moore 215 pp. Philadelphia: Templeton Foundation Press US $24.95 (hc).

I don't know about you, but without faith my finances wouldn't stretch too far. Sometimes "faith" has meant "credit"—as in getting an 11th-hour credit limit raise on my MasterCard in order to stay afloat. But deep down, I know that my fiscal stability and economic health rest on something a lot more reliable than the generosity of a bank (or employer). It rests on something spiritual. It rests on a deep trust that God, divine Principle, is providing a worry-free, abundant life complete with everything my family and I need to pay the bills.

OK, easy street it isn't. But we've figured out that when Jesus needed to pay taxes and found the money in the mouth of a fish (of all things), he illustrated a divine law (see Matt. 17:27). God's provision is always available and can come in the most unexpected form. Time after time, we've seen this universal, practical law of the "fish's mouth" (as we call it) rescue us. And we look for ways every day to be part of God's "fish's mouth" supply for other people.
