When inspired prayer becomes healing treatment

From the July 2003 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Even when things are going well in my life, I enjoy praying every morning, thinking deeply about the nature of God as my Father–Mother, protector, and provider. I love remembering the Bible's promises that God is in complete control of my life, and so I can experience only peace, joy, and harmony. I like to think that I am in the business of expressing God. This God, who is always with me and employs me, takes care of me and everyone.

This kind of prayer starts my day on a bright, high note. The early Christian preacher Paul told people, "Pray without ceasing."  Thess. 5:17. So I take my morning prayer with me throughout the day, delighting in God's goodness at every turn.

Like all of us, many times I face problems. Perhaps I don't feel well, or something in my life is going badly. Or maybe another individual asks me to pray for him or her. I see these as opportunities to pray again, but this would not be the general kind of prayer that I started my day with. It is a more specific prayer and it's aimed towards solving a specific problem. This kind of prayer is called treatment, spiritual treatment, or Christian Science treatment.
