Getting to the heart of healing

From the July 2003 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Who wouldn't want faster, more effective healing?

I know I have. And over the years I've noticed that healing often comes more quickly when I've uncovered the true cause of the ailment. You see, I've found that searching for the origin of a physical problem by examining the body doesn't get me anywhere. Why? Quite simply: The cause isn't physical, because the problem isn't physical. It all has to do with thought.

I'm not saying that every illness is merely a psychological disorder. Rather, spiritual healing of the kind I practice assumes that matter—the "stuff" of the material body, for example—is actually unreal, or an illusion. The condition may seem very real, and may even be medically diagnosed, but it really rests in human consciousness rather than in a real material "self." Since this is the case, it would make sense to carry out one's diagnosis in thought.
