New teachers of Christian Science

From the March 2004 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Once every three years, an intensive course of instruction is held, under the auspices of the Massachusetts Metaphysical College, to prepare practitioners of Christian Science for the sacred responsibility of teaching this Science to others. Christian Science is the healing system discovered by Mary Baker Eddy and explained in her book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.

The most recent class sessions took place in December 2003, as provided for in the Church Manual of The First Church of Christ, Scientist. The teacher of the 2003 class was Thomas Black, C.S.B., of Detroit, Michigan. Tom's devotion to the Cause of Christian Science has included four decades of service as a public practitioner of Christian Science and over three decades as a teacher of Christian Science. He has served as a state Committee on Publication, on the Board of Trustees of The Christian Science Publishing Society, as President of The Mother church, and as First Reader of The Mother Church. Tom is currently a contributing editor to the Journal and the Christian Science Sentinel. He has been a frequent contributor to spirituality.com and all the Christian Science periodicals for many years.

The 2003 class was composed of students who will be teaching in Brazil, Canada, the Democratic Republic of Congo, England, Japan, and in the United States in Connecticut, District of Columbia, Georgia, Texas, Utah, Vermont, and Wisconsin.
