DENVER

From the July 2007 issue of The Christian Science Journal

IT ALL STARTED WITH A LITTLE PIECE OF PAPER TACKED ONTO THE DOOR of a building at the corner of 16th and Larimer, in Denver, stating in Spanish: Christian Science Service, 12:00 noon.

Long before the first Spanish-language Christian Science service opened in what is known as Denver's metropolitan Christian Science Reading Room, Pete List was librarian at the Boulder Reading Room, approximately 25 miles northwest of Denver. While working his shift, he noticed that several Spanish-speaking individuals regularly visited the Reading Room. Although Mr. List didn't speak Spanish, he had been asking himself what he could do to further support the people coming in to read the weekly Bible Lessons in Spanish and to buy books and magazines from their stock of Christian Science literature.

"We had a sign in Spanish in the window saying that we had Spanish Bibles for sale," List explained. Many of the visitors also inquired about Christian Science services in Spanish. But at the time, there weren't any in Colorado.
