As a student of Christian Science for some 50 years now, I wish to express my gratitude for all of the ongoing prayerful work that goes into shoring up the timeliness and relevance of this religion in the 21st century. Many contemporary examples of this work can be found in the current Christian Science periodicals.
Recently, I received an e-mail from The Mother Church asking that members be on the lookout for a new "Church Alive" series. I did not see the details offered with this notice at the time. As a result, I visited a local Christian Science Reading Room in order to ask where I might read something further about the subject.
There were two Reading Room attendants on duty and they both agreed that I might find some information about this topic in the October issue of the Journal. The cover text is titled "What it Means to be ‘a child of the Church.’ " As I turned to the contents page, the welcome section mentioned the lead article on that subject, along with a research essay, "Mary Baker Eddy: ‘My Christianity.’ "
