My older son and I left a small camp in central Missouri with about $60 and a rental car. Our goal was to drive to Chicago, then take a train home to Boston. Money was clearly tight, and the only communication tool I had was a prepaid cellphone.
As a rule, our family doesn’t carry credit cards, only debit cards. Because I had paid for the rental car with a debit card, the rental agency put a $400 hold on my bank account as security, and I was told the funds wouldn’t be available again until I arrived home. I had planned out each expense along the way but hadn’t planned on that hold.
By the time my son and I reached Chicago, I had about ten minutes left on the cellphone and $15 after buying gas and food. I knew that God had seen my son and me through our trip out to the camp a couple of weeks earlier and enabled him to attend the camp, despite our very limited resources. But still, I prayed for the strength to trust God to take us the rest of the way.
