The perfect 'air'

From the November 2011 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Several years ago our son was participating in a round-the-world sailboat race, which took about nine months. The finish line was in Southampton, England, which is up the English Channel. My husband and I traveled to be there for the finish, especially as we thought that our son’s crew might win the race, which would be very exciting!

While we were waiting for the boats to reach Southampton, we were told that we needed to be patient because the wind had dropped to absolutely nothing and the tide was going out, which meant that the boats were sailing backward because the current was so strong. Because they were racing, the boats would be disqualified if they used their engines, but they could drop their anchors so that at least they would not lose ground, so to speak.

It seemed to me that it must be so frustrating to be almost home after nine months of racing, and then to be in a situation where they were sailing backward or stuck in one spot, unable to move forward. So I began to pray, asking God to show me right and useful spiritual ideas.
