My lifelong study of the teachings of Christ Jesus and Mary Baker Eddy has given me the confidence to turn to God for every answer.
One morning, as I was walking to a bus stop on my way to work, I suddenly felt a sharp sensation at the back of my ankle. It felt like something had bitten me, but looking around, I didn’t see anything. As I continued walking, I kept trying to figure out what could have caused this discomfort. Finally I declared out loud that there was only one Cause and the effect of that great Cause could only be good.
I didn’t think about it too much at work that day, but during the night I was awakened by a great deal of pain in the back of my foot. My first thought was a statement Mrs. Eddy wrote about the serpent biting at the heel, and I got out of bed to look up this passage in Science and Health—“The serpent is perpetually close upon the heel of harmony” (p. 564). I reasoned that the one divine Cause, God, being all-harmonious, was greater than any evil suggestion of pain. With this reassurance, I went back to bed.
