Glimpses of Grace

Natural attraction

I had recently been elected Reader of our branch church to conduct the church services and was sitting in the Reader’s room praying before the Sunday service. A ruby-throated hummingbird was enjoying his breakfast from the lavender in bloom outside my window. It dawned on me that perky little hummingbird did not wake up in the morning and decide if he wanted breakfast. He had no choice since it was what he was innately programmed to do.

I realized that individuals in our community were attracted to the sustaining power of divine Love as naturally as that little bird.
We gravitate toward Church, “the structure of Truth and Love” (Science and Health, p. 583), as innately as that little whirl of color gravitated toward that lavender bush. Because we are the pouring forth of Love, we have to express love. We are naturally drawn to Love. We do not choose to be in the place where we can be loved and express love, but Love chooses us to be there.
