In a lifetime of relying on Christian Science, I have had many healings. Some of them took a while. But others happened very quickly—and that continues to be the case.
Sometime ago, I was thinking about a verse from the prophet Isaiah, who quotes God as saying, “I am God, and there is none else” (Isaiah 45:22). I had long thought that it specifically meant that there were no other gods as stated in the First Commandment.
But then out of curiosity I looked up the word none in my Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary. The synonym it gave was nothing. In applying this to the Bible quote, I concluded that Isaiah could have said: “I am God, and there is nothing else.” I soon had an opportunity to use this expanded sense of truth.
Early in 2011, I was copying a column of figures, when it became very difficult to do so because of pain in my fingers, especially the joints. It was painful even to move the pencil. I realized that since there is nothing but God, He has to be the only creator, and since He is Love, He could not be the source of the pain I was suffering. Therefore, the pain could only be an illusion, and I had no reason to be concerned about an illusion.
After only a few minutes of reasoning along this line, I picked up my pencil and went back to my task without the slightest pain. I was delighted of course to get on with my work, but super delighted with this quick proof of the healing power of Christian Science.
A few weeks after that, while I was doing some reading, my eyes started watering, my nose was running, and my head was congested. I thought back to the previous experience and realized that God doesn’t create illnesses. Praying with these thoughts for a few minutes, I went back to my reading. About 20 minutes later my eyes, nose, and head had completely cleared.
More recently I became aware of pain in my lower back when I tried to bend over, reach high for something, and especially when I tried to turn over in bed. I realized that what is not included in God is not included in me, since my thoughts reflect the divine Mind. This was only nothing claiming to be something—another illusion. The result? No more back pain.
To say that I am grateful for Christian Science is a gross
understatement.
