Why intelligent life is throughout the universe

From the May 2012 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Lake Vostok, Antarctica. Mars. Europa. Titan. Comets. Astrobiologists believe these locations may house the so-called “building blocks” of life. Today, biologists and physical scientists are intently seeking the answer to how life began and whether Earth is unique in our vast universe.

How did life begin? Where did we come from? Are we alone in the universe? Those questions have been asked from both theological and scientific points of view throughout the ages, and are ones to which Christian Science brings special insight.

In the past 50 years, it has been postulated that Mars has canals, Europa (a moon orbiting the planet Jupiter) has fish, and Earth-like planets exist in other solar systems. Today, we know that basic life in the ocean under Europa’s icy crust might actually be possible; that Earth-like planets in other solar systems are likely; but that what were once postulated as canals on Mars are not.
