Let God be in control

From the July 2012 issue of The Christian Science Journal

After arriving by plane in California for a two-week vacation, my wife and I waited for our luggage, but mine never showed up. I was upset because I didn’t want to begin our vacation without most of my clothes. The airline staff was nice and calm and agreed to forward my luggage to our hotel if it arrived later. But I was not optimistic since we had made it to our departure airport in plenty of time for the luggage to be loaded onto the plane with us.

At the hotel, I was still visibly upset. My wife, a lifelong Christian Scientist, was calm and suggested we call a Christian Science practitioner for prayerful support, especially to help me calm down.

At the time I was not a Christian Scientist, but the practitioner was very loving and supportive and asked us to pray with this Bible verse: “Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalms 46:10). She also asked us to think about this statement by Mary Baker Eddy: “All is under the control of the one Mind, even God” (Science and Health, p. 544).
