Feeling the sublimity of sunlight rising over the ocean one morning, I watched its radiance. Just as dawn’s light eventually fills the sky, God illumines our lives, bringing freedom and healing in glorious ways. Even as the light of the universe is regulated by divine law and is invariable, so our lives are regulated by divine law, which brings healing.
In John 1:5 we have this comforting statement: “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it” (English Standard Version). I felt this power of true, spiritual light and its law of perfection through a healing I had after I was bitten by a black widow spider while cleaning my garage.
I knew from the Bible that all things were made by God. I also understood from Mary Baker Eddy’s textbook of Christian Science that, “God is ‘the same yesterday, and to-day, and forever;’ and He who is immutably right will do right without being reminded of His province” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, pp. 2–3). God is forever uninterrupted, unchanging, unyielding, continuous light.
