About six years ago I found myself unable to put any weight on one of my legs. I phoned the Visiting Christian Science Nurse Service in our community and asked if I could borrow a pair of crutches. I was told yes, but only if I was working with a Christian Science practitioner. I gladly enlisted the services of a practitioner, and a Christian Science nurse brought over the crutches and adjusted them for me. I thought this would be “a walk in the park.” However, the next day I could not put any weight on either foot. I felt drained of all energy and just wanted to lie in bed. The desire to eat left me. My bedroom was dark and gloomy. Still, I thought this would surely pass quickly.
After a couple of days in bed, I realized I needed further help. So, I phoned the Christian Science Visiting Nurse Service again and asked if someone could come over to help with my immediate needs. Two Christian Science nurses stopped by, evaluated the situation, and asked how often I would like them to come to assist me. I told them that I had no idea, having never before been in this kind of situation. They suggested that they should come every day, and I readily agreed.
After about three days of their visits, I realized that once the Christian Science nurse appeared in my bedroom, all darkness and gloominess vanished instantly. I thought to myself, “Buddy, if you want to be healed, you’d better get with the program!”
