Exploring in depth what Christian Science is and how it heals.

THE CHALLENGE: PEACEFUL COEXISTENCE

In this age the depths of the sea have been penetrated, the stratosphere explored, and the atom split; but there remains a divided, quarrelsome world facing its most basic challenge: the harmonious relationship of men, or peaceful coexistence. The spiritual understanding of God, and of man pre-existent, coexistent, and coeternal with Him, can meet this challenge.

"THE GUEST OF GOD"

" Pilgrim on earth, thy home is heaven; stranger, thou art the guest of God. " Mary Baker Eddy writes these illuminating words as the concluding lines of the chapter entitled "Footsteps of Truth" in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" ( p.

THE WORD OF GOD

" God said, Let there be light: and there was light" ( Gen. 1:3 ).

SPIRITUAL GRAVITATION

When one considers the term "gravitation," thought may be inclined to turn towards the attraction between the earth and material objects and to the story of Newton and the falling apple. But mankind has long been intrigued by the ability of birds to overcome the earth's gravitational pull and to soar upward in the air, many of them with so much ease and grace.

GENTLENESS

Witness the effect of a gentle rain with its refreshment and encouragement in the unfolding of beauty and fragrance. See also the blustering rain that beats against the windowpane, flattens grass and plant, and threatens with blight both bud and blossom.

Yet the difficulty seems so aggressive and refuses to yield.

But have we really begun to plumb the depth of meaning, the practical import, of this fact to our own lives and to the well-being of the world? For, says Mary Baker Eddy of human experience ( Unity of Good, p.

SCIENCE AND BUSINESS

" Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven" ( Matt. 5:16 ).

"THE MIDNIGHT TORCHES OF SPIRIT"

As a woman traveled alone one night through the countryside, with utter darkness behind, to the right and to the left, and with the headlights of her car penetrating but a little of the gloom ahead, she thought, "How symbolic of my human experience right now. " Since she was a student of Christian Science and was earnestly seeking God's guidance, His presence and care were immediately made manifest by the following angel message: Darkness was powerless to impede her progress as long as light was focused on the highway.

EQUIPOISE

Dost thou know the balancings of the clouds, the wondrous works of him which is perfect in knowledge?" To those who have enjoyed the beauty of white clouds serene against the background of a blue sky, this passage from Job ( 37:16 ) points out a grand, spiritual lesson. One has but to recall the utter effortlessness of superb equilibrium to perceive that such a scene symbolizes "the wondrous works of him which is perfect in knowledge.
