IN the year 1866 a mode of thought which is revolutionizing the world came as a revelation from divine Truth to Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science. Revelation is defined as "the act of making known what was previously concealed or unknown," and as "God's disclosure or manifestation of Himself or His will to man.
WE sometimes hear it said that such a one is "a man of substance;" by which phrase is meant a person who possesses an abundance of material wealth. It does not take very deep study, however, or very keen observation, to expose the unsubstantiality of this sort of wealth; for matter is constantly changing, fading, deteriorating, decaying.
ONE of the best-known passages in the Bible, and perhaps the most quoted, is that beautiful song of David, the twenty-third psalm, which begins with the lines: "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
IN the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy says ( p.
EVERY Christian Scientist deeply desires to grow in the understanding of God and His Christ. The new student looks forward with eagerness to the time when he may be able to do the works which, in his awakened joy, seem to him supremely holy and desirable.
WHEN Jesus uttered the immortal words recorded in the fourteenth chapter of John's Gospel, "I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you," it is probable that those who heard him placed a limited, personal construction on his utterance, not fully understanding that he referred to the Christ, Truth, which he had taught and demonstrated during his earthly ministry. IN some of our western states, where large and valuable crops are raised, there is so little rainfall that the soil has to be watered artificially by means of irrigation ditches leading from a central reservoir, which must be high enough to cause the water to flow to the producing field by the natural force of gravity. Hence, the reservoirs are usually built in the mountains or at some point higher than the fields which they water.
IN Christian Science, which is the law of God, divine Mind, all facts and rules are subject to proof. A dictionary definition of "proof" is, "Something proved or gained by experience.
PAUL made a most significant statement when he said, "We know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose;" for, studying Paul's experience from the time he became a follower of Christ, we see that his remarkable career was the result of his spiritual understanding, and that this statement was made out of his rich experience. In Christian Science God, good, is understood as the great I AM, divine Mind, the cause and creator of the universe, including man.
SINCERE students of Christian Science are increasingly grateful for the spiritual understanding of the Scriptures which is daily unfolded through the study of their textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Numerous Biblical passages, which formerly seemed to have no direct application to their daily experiences, now stand out as vitally important, and are seen to contain messages which have a direct bearing upon the solution of their problems, of whatever nature these may appear to be.
