IN the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" ( p. 583 ), Mary Baker Eddy defines "Church," in part, as "the structure of Truth and Love; whatever rests upon and proceeds from divine Principle.
TO those who may be tempted to feel that God, good, is far removed from their daily experience,—that God is afar off,—what could give greater confidence than the words from Psalms which declare our inseparability from God? "Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.
AMONG the many inspiring messages that come to us from the prophet Isaiah, we find one in the form of a question: "Who is this that cometh from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? this that is glorious in his apparel, travelling in the greatness of his strength? .
" WHY am I having so much trouble?" a sufferer once asked a friend. The answer was very promptly given, "Because you are forgetting your relationship to God.
HOW often we hear people speak of economic problems, problems which mankind has always had to face, but which to-day seem present in a more pressing way! Economic difficulties arise from the false belief in a material creation, including material man, dependent for his well being on material things. As for all problems which confront humanity, Christian Science alone can present the solution of them, for it brings salvation from the evil held constantly before the gaze of a fearful world.
WHETHER we know it or not, all true Christian Scientists carry the cross. This cross is heavy or light according to the cushion of gratitude upon which it rests.
THROUGH observing the acts of a brood of young chicks the writer learned a lesson in obedience to divine Love. These chicks, with the mother hen, were taken from a coop one summer morning and placed in a pen inclosed in poultry netting.
TO human sense there has always been a greater or less degree of strife and discord in the personal relations of men, in the relations of capital and labor, and of nations. Yet the hearts of men have ever sought peace, because in peaceful relations with their fellows they might have greater material comfort, wellbeing, and supply.
TO the Bible student it is illuminating to trace the beginnings of various aspects of Truth back to Moses' clear spiritual vision of God and of man's relationship to God. The Christ which was "before Abraham," the Christ which has always been present to make God comprehensible to humanity, whenever one has lent a listening ear, was Moses' guide and counselor.
IN writing of a Christmastide, Mary Baker Eddy referred to its coming in these words: "Again loved Christmas is here, full of divine benedictions and crowned with the dearest memories in human history—the earthly advent and nativity of our Lord and Master.
