I was raised on The Christian Science Monitor. Or, perhaps more accurately, it took an active role in raising me.
How do you respond to local, national, and international news? While answers to that question will undoubtedly vary, it's been said that, love it or hate it, you simply can't ignore the news. And why would you want to? News is the instrument for disseminating information important to the public.
When Mary Baker Eddy decided that her Church needed to publish a daily newspaper, she offered little explanation as to why. In her August 8, 1908, order to the Board of Trustees of The Christian Science Publishing Society, her certainty of the Monitor's importance was unmistakable, even though details were lacking: "It is my request that you start a daily newspaper at once, and call it the Christian Science Monitor.
" IS THERE NO BALM IN GILEAD ; is there no physician there? why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered?" ( Jer. 8:22 ).
ENTER THE WORDS HUMILITY AND SUCCESS in a Google search on the Internet, and hundreds of references will show that humility is as much a valued source of success in the business world as in politics or religion. This raises the question why a humble thought should be a more effective asset than its opposite, pride.

In 2007, the Christian Science Board of Directors announced in the Journal the introduction of a new program allowing licensing of the Cross and Crown seal. This program is directed toward Christian Science branch churches and societies, Christian Science Reading Rooms, Committees on Publication, and Christian Science organizations at colleges and universities so all of these entities may represent genuine Christian Science services, publications, and products in their local jurisdictions.
