It's a new era in publishing. The Christian Science Publishing House is being renovated and restored to serve the publishing activities of The Mother Church in the beginning years of a new millennium.

During August, more than fifteen hundred college and university students and faculty from thirty-eight countries gathered at The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston for a three-day international conference exploring the theme "Pioneers of the Spiritual Millennium. " The participants were encouraged to think of a millennium as much more than a date.

Mary Baker Eddy once wrote: "The motive of my earliest labors has never changed. It was to relieve the sufferings of humanity by a sanitary system that should include all moral and religious reform.

Increasingly , people in both the religious and medical communities are recognizing that our health is correlated with our state of thought. Hatred, resentment, fear, envy, anger, or chronic frustration can all lead to sickness.

Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy says: "Happiness is spiritual, born of Truth and Love. It is unselfish; therefore it cannot exist alone, but requires all mankind to share it.

How many of us wake up in the morning and ask, "Father, what shall I do today?" and then listen as God, moment by moment, unfolds our day? It's more likely that we wake up with a set plan or familiar pattern in place. There is no suggestion in the Bible that Christ Jesus lived his life according to a prescribed, personal formula.

The Bible includes many references to the tenderness, patience, and enduring compassion that characterize true Christian fellowship. But both the Old and New Testaments also call for the moral courage and strength of conviction that enable us to point out to one another what's needed in order to keep to the path that leads Godward.

In celebrating the centennial year of The Christian Science Publishing Society, the Journal recognizes the many behind-the-scenes sacrifices involved in carrying out its healing mission.
