Report on international conference in Boston

Spiritual pioneers . . . active healers

From the October 1998 issue of The Christian Science Journal

During August, more than fifteen hundred college and university students and faculty from thirty-eight countries gathered at The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston for a three-day international conference exploring the theme "Pioneers of the Spiritual Millennium. "

The participants were encouraged to think of a millennium as much more than a date. They were reminded that Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science and a true pioneer, defined millennium as "a state and stage of mental advancement, going on since ever time was. Its impetus," she continued, "accelerated by the advent of Christian Science, is marked, and will increase till all men shall know Him (divine Love) from the least to the greatest, and one God and the brotherhood of man shall be known and acknowledged throughout the earth." The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, pp. 239-240

Our Features Editor, Kim Shippey, reports on the conference.
