People the world over, from all religious backgrounds, have been faced at times with the apparent contradiction of praying earnestly for God's help and then having the outcome of their prayers seem less than triumphant. The question of God's reliability deserves more than a cursory answer in the face of circumstances that cause us to cry out as Christ Jesus did on the cross, "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" Mark 15:34 Jesus' resurrection proved that God had not forsaken him.
Some years ago when applying to join a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, I was interviewed by a Christian Science practitioner, whom I had asked to be my sponsor. This very loving man commenced by asking me several questions and then, probably sensing my lack of experience, went on to warn me not to place my fellow church members on pedestals.
There is growing evidence throughout the world of renewed awareness of the necessity for spirituality in human affairs—in homes and communities, in business, in health, in worship. And the fulfillment of that yearning is being actively pursued.
