What is prayer in Christian Science?

In an episode of the fictional television drama L. A Law , the actor on the witness stand, who was playing the part of a Christian Scientist, stated that Christian Science healing consisted of prayer and a faith that God would heal the disease.

Science and Health and its relationship to the practice of Christian Science

After the publishing of the ground-breaking textbook of Christian Science, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, the first periodical founded by Mary Baker Eddy was The Christian Science Journal in 1883. Her statement of its purpose is specific — it is "designed to put on record the divine Science of Truth.

Listeners in many parts of the world, such as the United States, aren't as familiar with short wave radio and its frequencies as are people who live in places where shortwave listening is much more common. Usually, AM and FM radio stations are located in one's local community, but listeners to short wave frequencies are often listening to programs from transmitters located hundreds and even thousands of miles away from where they live.

It was so evident at the meetings—the loving support that employees at The Mother Church receive from their spouses in the work they do! When an invitation was extended to spouses of employees to attend one of two Saturday morning meetings focused on Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, they accepted, prepared, and came (some of them from a considerable distance).

A church based on revelation

When Jesus' followers started to preach the gospel, they congregated in homes or open spaces because they didn't have temples. Their example shows that wherever we are, it is possible to take the true concept of Church that Christ Jesus left us: a church based on revelation.

Character education and church

Who's responsible for teaching people to be compassionate, honest, and morally courageous members of society? This has always been the work of parents. And, while business and educational institutions are newly considering their roles in character training, churches and synagogues have been at the heart of character education for a long time.
