Exploring in depth what Christian Science is and how it heals.

Make the effort to be healed

When that "certain lawyer" referred to in Luke's Gospel asked Jesus, "Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" Jesus responded, "What is written in the law? how readest thou?" After the lawyer recited the commandments to love God with all one's heart, soul, strength, and mind and "thy neighbour as thyself," Jesus simply said, "Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live. " Luke 10:25-28.

Mind's "infinite self-containment"

Being is spiritual because it is the activity of the divine Mind, God. Taking place in and as consciousness, and single in quality and quantity because it has one infinite source, or Principle, being does not permit anything inconsistent with itself.

Welcoming strangers to our church services

A number of years ago I moved away from home to attend college. I soon discovered there was a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, in town.

Practicing what we know

What would be thought of a plumber who knew all the skills of his trade but did not practice them? Or what about a car mechanic who read and understood car manuals but never dismantled an engine or put it together again? Perhaps he or she might be afraid to put that hard-won knowledge to the test. Laboring in the vineyard

If you and I had labored in someone else's vineyard since early morning, and then received the same wages as one who had worked only for the last hour, we would most likely be quite upset. Such treatment just wouldn't seem fair, even if we had previously agreed on the amount we were to receive.

"Death be not proud"

I've always loved John Donne's injunction. And since becoming a serious student of Christian Science, I have found more meaning in it.

A loaf of bread under each arm

An old saying has it that every infant is born with a loaf of bread under each arm. This gives a hint of the spiritual fact that each child of God is provided for.

The truth, without exception

The application of Christian Science requires a firm conviction of the absolute truth that God is All —that He alone is the All-loving, all-powerful and ever present. By the very nature of such allness, no other power or presence can exist.

On being a modern-day Nehemiah

"I will not go in" was Nehemiah 's uncompromising reply to his enemies' suggestion that he seek safety in the temple from an attack on his life. See Neh.
