After his moving words of Romans 1-8 , Paul turns in Chapter 9 to the particular situation of his own countrymen, "the seed of Abraham. " Paul loved those of his own nation and had sought earnestly to share with them the Christian faith in spite of their constant opposition to his teaching.

An American general, the story goes, once answered the enemy's demand for surrender with an emphatic "Nuts!" The general in command of the enemy forces, not understanding American slang, was apparently puzzled by this brief, strange reply. The suggestion of surrender apparently aroused the American general to stand by his previous orders to hold his position.

With God's help, should any trying situation arise, we have no basis for fear. God is all-powerful, all-intelligent, all-loving, and we abide in Him.

In Christian Science we learn that our health, or wholeness, comes from God. It is eternal because Life is eternal.

Almost everyone holds some kind of guard over what he considers his world. The question is, How effective is that guard? And how healing is it? Is it a series of small wars—an attempt to overcome evil as a reality? Are we believing that there are two forces at work, one good and one evil, both equally valid? Or is our guard a holding to spiritual dominion, which bears witness to God's allness, His omnipresence, and His manifestation? Many years ago, while living in a far-off country, I had what now seems to me an uplifting vision. One night I had barely put my head on the pillow when I suddenly visualized myself standing on a mound.

One inevitable result of the study and application of Christian Science is the purifying of human character. Indeed, if this is not happening, it would be wise to examine the depths of one's dedication.

"Who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth?" Gal. 5:7; There sometimes seem to be innumerable enemies hindering us from obeying Truth, from being aware of God's goodness and love instead of discord and evil.

Churches of Christ, Scientist, situated in communities where there have been a number of violent crimes have sometimes organized committees to pray about this problem from the standpoint of Christian Science. The question presents itself, Is such a committee praying because of fear for the safety of the church members, or is it praying to rejoice in the omnipresent reign of all-loving divine Principle and its harmonious government of all being? There is a world of difference between the two approaches.

No other activity today needs or deserves our support, love, and careful attention more than does the Cause of Christian Science. The mission of the Church of Christ, Scientist, is to share with everyone the demonstrable Science of Christianity.
