Testimonies of Healing
When my attention was first called to Christian Science, I was a weak, sickly woman, both physically and mentally. I had been an invalid for eighteen years, which condition was brought about from the birth of my children.
THAT the power of God, as taught and understood in Christian Science, heals the sick and reforms the sinner, I have abundant proof. Feeling that my experience may encourage others who may be suffering as I did, I feel impelled to relate it.
"Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies.
Christian Science has wrought such a change in my life and in my home, that it would be difficult for me to find words to express the gratitude I feel for these blessings, but I send this testimony, trusting that it may encourage some one who is incredulous as to the healing in Christian Science of what are called chronic or organic diseases. I had never known what it was to feel well, being a very delicate child and a sufferer for nearly all my life, although every remedy had been tried to cure or relieve me of rheumatic gout, from which I had suffered for twenty-five years.
In gratitude for Christian Science, I offer this testimonial, hoping it may help others. For more than forty years I suffered from disease; slight at first, but increasing as time went on, until about five years ago, when the end seemed near.
In August, 1907, I fell and injured my wrist very badly. The pain was intense, and my daughter wished to send for a doctor, but I asked her to telephone to a Christian Science practitioner for help.
One of the greatest blessings of my life was to move next door to a Christian Scientist, for even before I knew she was one I felt the influence and healing power of her understanding of Truth. About four weeks after learning that she was a follower of Christian Science I was gradually led to take it up for myself.
Three years ago I had an attack of heart trouble, and two physicians, one of whom was a specialist, stated that it was serious. As I was greatly reduced, relatives hardly expected me to be a well man again.
At times I find myself lamenting the fact that my growth in the understanding of Christian Science does not appear to be as rapid as desired, but when this sense of discouragement arises I have only to review my experience in Christian Science by a comparison with the old order of things before I had tested its efficacy, to convince me that the question, "What has Christian Science really done for you?" is too broad to be fully and briefly answered. I sought healing through it over three years ago, and only because I had exhausted all material remedies, having spent several thousand dollars in experimenting for a period of years with first one system and then another, for relief from a complication of ailments.
Christian Science means a great deal more to me than a satisfactory method of healing. The healing has been proved to me conclusively, both in my own case and in that of loved ones; but the physical benefits, as thorough and beautiful as they have been, are insignificant compared to that peace and happiness which my understanding of the true God has brought me, though the healing brought the greater blessings by proving to me the truth of Christian Science.
