I was baking cookies for my soon-to-arrive guests, but my mind was elsewhere—on a relationship that was troubling me. Distracted, I removed a tray of cookies from the oven without using an oven mitt.

A few years ago , I spent two weeks with my sister and her husband in China. It was an active, adventurous trip that included visits to several famous cities and sites.

I was afraid most of the time. Afraid to leave my house.

A few years ago , when my son was in second grade, his teacher told me he needed to be tested for learning disabilities. She suggested he had dyslexia because he reversed more letters than was typical for kids his age, and sometimes he reversed entire words.

In Early 2001 , my company needed a new manager for the office where I worked. I had managed offices before and thought that I would be a good candidate.

My daughter , Claude, is an eighth-grader and a competitive gymnast in Ontario, Canada. Last spring, she was training for the Ontario Provincial Games, slipped on the balance beam, and banged her elbow.
