Big Brother, in the George Orwell novel 1984 , is the dictator of a totalitarian state whose ruling party claims to have everyone’s interests at heart, but instead attempts to control people’s thoughts and actions. Though party propaganda claims Big Brother exists, it's not clear in the novel if he's real or simply a fabrication of the party in order to personify it.

You may recall that in 2011 Scott stepped away from his work on the Board of Trustees to serve as President of the Board of Education.
