Spirituality and childbirth

Originally appeared on spirituality.com

Prayer over childbirth is a totally joyous experience! One is obviously not dealing with a disease, but with the happy, natural unfoldment of good. So prayer is always affirmative, a rejoicing attitude that allows the gentle development of right activity to take place normally and harmoniously, both during the nine months of pregnancy, and at the actual time of delivery.

No personification of good or evil

In evaluating and analyzing world affairs from the daily news, it seems logical to identify the presence of good or evil with a particular person or group of people. Not only are these attributes applied to prominent personalities who receive ample media coverage, but are also present closer to home—with family members, neighbors, fellow employees, etc.

Humility in the classroom

One day I was wondering what it would have been like to live in the early days of Christianity, to hear or see the healings that we read about in the book of Acts in the Bible. How would it have been to have been living in Joppa, or Jaffa as it is known today, when Tabitha died? Tabitha was a disciple of Jesus, and she was such a good woman, always thinking of others! Recently, when I was on a very long phone conversation with a service provider, I learned something about God. At first, I was not looking forward to this phone call given my past experiences, but this time it seemed to go well and the required information was quickly shared.

Reflections on a mother's healing

While living with me, my mother Alice experienced a wonderful instantaneous healing of a crippling infirmity through Christian Science. Sometime later, we as a family went to a theme park where there were miles of walking—and my mother was out ahead of the rest of us most of the way! Still later, back at home one day, she was skipping in the yard—something that could have looked simply foolish to an onlooker—a woman in her eighth decade skipping like a little girl.

Stress-free studying

Have you ever felt burdened with work, whether it is homework, your job, or household chores that have to get done all in one day? As a college student in a rigorous education program, I often feel that I have too much to accomplish in so little time. This distress was particularly aggressive one day last year when I was taking challenging education courses and the work just continued to pile on my desk.
