Life never ends

From The Christian Science Journal - November 1, 2012

First appeared in the November 2012 issue of The Herald of Christian Science. Originally written in Portuguese.

The study and practice of Christian Science give us a foundation to better understand our relationship to God, who is Life.

Some years ago, before I started studying this Science, I always questioned the reason why people live and die. However, as I read Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, I felt challenged by this statement: “When it is learned that disease cannot destroy life, and that mortals are not saved from sin or sickness by death, this understanding will quicken into newness of life” (p. 426). I realized that whenever we acknowledge that all are the beloved children of God and seek to better understand Him as Life, we witness radical changes in our consciousness and in our experience.

Through the study of Christian Science, I have learned that Life is spiritual, eternal, and infinite, without beginning or end. I also understand now that Life is Spirit, Mind, Soul, Principle, Love, and Truth, for these are the seven synonyms for God given by Mrs. Eddy in Science and Health. For this reason, as God’s reflection, our lives are a natural and constant unfolding of attributes such as activity, energy, beauty, order, harmony, love, truthfulness. Since they reflect the divine, these qualities are spiritual and infinite. They do not depend on a physical body to be expressed, but are always present and cannot stop being manifested on account of illness or death.
