Testimonies of Healing

Be yourself—Overcome anger

I was really trying to know the Christ. I had been reading in the Christian Science Bible Lessons, the Herald and the writings of Mary Baker Eddy quite a lot about the perfect man, created in the image and likeness of God, though I was having a hard time understanding this concept. I felt closer to the Christ when I read the Bible or Science and Health, but whenever I would face my own mental entanglements, I could not grasp the healing presence of the Christ.

One Sunday after a church service at a Christian Science branch church, a good friend suggested that I look even further into the meaning of the Christ, which I did. And I was surprised with all the things I discovered. One of the instances was when Jesus asked his disciples who he (Jesus) was. Peter replied, “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God” (John 6:69). Mary Baker Eddy explains: “That is: The Messiah is what thou hast declared, —Christ, the spirit of God, of Truth, Life, and Love, which heals mentally” (Science and Health, p. 137).

A few days later, when the buzzing on the phone interrupted my nap I couldn’t help but answering in a rude way. When I hung up I felt angry with myself about the many unkind reactions I have expressed. And at that moment I asked myself, “Why do I feel like this? Why am I not expressing more of the Christ?”
