When I was introduced to Christian Science, I had everything the world loves. I was young, had money, social standing, a successful college career, but I was in very poor health. I was told I had gallstones and kidney stones. I was in a lot of pain and was unable to get out of bed. Doctors had said that I needed to undergo surgery.
One day, a relative came to visit, and she talked to me about Christian Science. She left with me several copies of The Herald of Christian Science in Spanish, and the book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. She explained to me that this Science wasn’t similar to any religion, and that it would make me think. At that time, since I considered myself to be a free thinker and was an atheist, I accepted the challenge to see what it was all about.
That same night I began reading the book and continued until I suddenly realized it was dawn. But I kept reading. Each chapter was more beautiful than the last, and I was delighted about how I was feeling at that moment. At the beginning, I could not even hold the book well. I was unable to read well, I couldn’t do anything, and suddenly I was sitting with the book in my hand, reading. While that night was really cold, I didn’t feel cold.
