I was brought up in a strong Hindu family, and we worshipped a particular idol while I was growing up. At the time of my marriage this idol was given to me on the condition that I would worship it daily without fail.
Later, after I was introduced to Christian Science, I became convinced that Christian Science practice was the best way to worship God. Deep within my heart I wanted to become part of this movement and share this wonderful Science with everyone, even those who did not understand English. But I knew that becoming a member would mean changing my religion and giving up idol worshipping, which would disturb my family members.
I did not know what to do, so I prayed. I knew that “desire is prayer; and no loss can occur from trusting God with our desires, that they may be moulded and exalted before they take form in words and in deeds” (Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 1). I also knew that my heavenly Father, God, knew my desire and would open the way. He is one Mind, the Father of all, governing all. He was the source of my desire to worship in this way, and He would not guide me in one direction while telling His other children to stop me from taking this step.
